I am an ecologist and mixed media collage artist who gives students hands-on opportunities to explore art and science in meaningful, memorable ways. My goal is to guide students through creative challenges where curiosity, perseverance, and collaboration matter more than perfection, helping them feel both capable and connected.
Connect with like-minded learners from across the Pacific Northwest to exchange ideas, resources, and support our Arts in Education programs here in the Gorge.

Mediums: Carbon transfer, paper collage, and acrylic painting
In this week-long residency, students create layered animal portraits while learning about adaptations, habitats, and visual concepts like value and texture. The process is intentionally challenging—at times the artwork looks messy or chaotic—but I guide students to embrace that struggle as part of the magic. Every student experiences the moment when their portrait suddenly comes together, building confidence and showing them the value of tenacity. They learn to select collage papers, layer textures, and find inventive ways to capture details, and the end result is always a gallery of unique, successful works that students are proud of.

Mediums: Marble, watercolor, and acrylic painting, building a collaborative assembly
As both an ecologist and beekeeper, I love connecting science and art through this collaborative project. Students learn about the roles bees play at different life stages and draw parallels to how their classroom, grade, or school functions as a community. Each student creates a hexagonal “cell” using marbling, watercolor, or painting techniques, and together we assemble them into a large honeycomb artwork for display. Students are most engaged when making their pieces, handling real beekeeping tools, and sharing stories about hive life. This project blends STEM and the arts, teaching ecology, collaboration, and the joy of contributing to a larger, interconnected community—just like a thriving beehive
