About the Artist

I create art inspired by nature, using natural materials whenever possible. I make my own inks from plants and pigments gathered from my surroundings, and I love sharing this natural palette with others through workshops and artist residencies.

About THE ARTIST

Watercolor Flowers

4-5 day Residency, all grades

Students are guided through a series of wet-on-wet watercolor lessons from which they will create a bountiful bouquet of flowers on paper. They will be led through a series of “color stories” as they paint, equating color to emotions as well as giving them direction yet leaving room for creative freedom. Students learn basic watercolor skills and color theory, mixing color directly on the paper, gaining in complexity as we go. Students draw and scrape paint on some of our painted papers then cut out our shapes. We learn to cut a symmetrical vase, and we cut flowers and stems freehand from the inspirational painted papers and finally collage them down on a large plain color field that involves a bit more color theory to ponder.

Folk Art Mural

2 week residency, 4th grade

Folk art is art created for and by a community. It depicts everyday life, celebrates small moments, and highlights what makes a community unique. In this project, students study the two-dimensional style of folk artists and create drawings inspired by scenes from their own town. They practice sketching multiple scenes, then observe and discuss their work together as a group.Using a prepared wall surface, students paint their final scenes directly onto the wall. They work with a limited color palette and follow designated color sections to understand where and how to paint. Each student works individually while intentionally connecting their scene to the surrounding artwork. Together, students paint every inch of the wall, creating a unified composition. A final layer is added by the artist creating intentional negative space to give it a clean, cohesive look. The final result is a dynamic mural created by and for the community.
