A lifelong painter and printmaker with a BA in fine arts, I've taught art workshops in schools for over 2 decades, engaging kids' minds and hands with new tools and processes that build on their understanding of composition, color theory, art history, and self-expression. Art saves lives!

4-day residency for grades 4-8
Subjects could include science-based drawings/images, family history, personal illuminated manuscript letters. Students learn a multi-step process using tracing paper, rubber blocks, carving tools, brayers, inks, color mixing, barens, cotton printmaking paper. This project ties to art history and literacy, and drawing skills not required -- students work together in creating their sets of prints in various colors. Some students like to print on clothing with fabric inks as well.

5-day residency for grades 5-9
Life happens fast, and the act of making art slows us down, forces us to be in our own heads, taking stock of where we are in this moment. In this 5-day graffiti arts lesson for 5th through 9th grades, students must choose images from their lives that are self-reflective. These images are blown up to 11x17 copies, then cut as stencils with X-acto blades to be spray-painted outdoors on panels. Students learn patience, eye-hand coordination, thinking sequentially, problem solving and using colors in creative ways. I have also done this project for studies of the constitutional amendments and history/social studies. Art history talking points: Blek Le Rat, Keith Haring, Banksy and Shepherd Fairey, and other contemporary outdoor muralists.
